Since 2019, Alice Johnson Cain has led the Moriah Fund as Executive Director and donor advisor focused on advancing education, democracy, and electoral politics. Alice brings more than 30 years of experience in public service, policy, and philanthropy, including two years in the Maryland General Assembly, where she helped enact landmark education legislation in 2020. Alice came to her recent roles after decades on Capitol Hill and in senior nonprofit leadership positions, including serving as chief education advisor to Congressman George Miller, Chair of the U.S. House Committee on Education and Labor, where she authored numerous laws and amendments to strengthen public education. She also served in leadership roles at the Children’s Defense Fund, Teach Plus, National Institute for Literacy and National Alliance of Public Charter Schools.
Widely respected for her bipartisan leadership, Alice has served in policy and advisory roles across government, philanthropy, and the nonprofit sector and serves as member of the Board of Civics Unplugged. She is a graduate of Gettysburg College and earned a Fulbright Fellowship to New Zealand.
